The Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine

Archdiocese of Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Blessed Stanley Rother was an Oklahoma diocesan priest who was killed in his parish rectory in Guatemala on July 28, 1981 during the civil war. In 2016, Pope Francis recognized him as the first martyr born in the United States and he was beatified in Oklahoma City on September 23, 2017.

The people of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma have built the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine to honor him and his ministry. The $41 million project includes a 39,000 square foot (3,512 square meter) Spanish mission style Church that accommodates two thousand worshippers. A small chapel serves as Blessed Stanley Rother’s final resting place. A 14,000 square foot Visitor’s Center and Museum welcomes visiting pilgrims and a Zocalo and Tepeyac Hill complete the beautiful landscape design. Construction is complete and the dedication Mass was held on February 17, 2023.
